Classic Dine' Serape With Indigo
This historic tapestry woven with handspun native wool, indigo dyed blue, aniline dyed red and orange, natural white and carded brown.
Indigo lost favor with the weavers by the mid 1880s, with access to aniline blues and colorful Germantown wool.
Worn by a man as a shoulder blanket, the stripes worn vertically to enhance height.
Very fine spun wool is expertly woven, fine and even wefts.
Displayed as wall art, it measures 4'6" by 6'.
Very good condition, no side A or B, minor restoration as shown, using original materials.
This lovely piece of Dine' and American history has been treasured for many years, ready for a new caretaker!
