Black pottery jar by Santa Clara Pueblo Indian artist Doris Tenorio, circa 1980s.
Very nice shape with a low shoulder shows off the precise carving which is then outlined with the slip.
Doris and her sister Carol Velarde are credited with creating this style of carving.
Native clay is hand formed, stone burnished slip, then pit fired.
Standing 4" tall by 5 1/2" diameter, no chips or cracks, a few tiny pop outs during firing.
