Great old San Carlos Apache Indian burden basket from the early 20th century.
Twine woven with willow and devils claw, there is a band of aniline dyed red, seen only on the interior.
This is a full size basket 12" deep and 14" diameter, fine original condition.
The rim has bands of black separated by willow, all brain tanned hide, with a red fabric under it.
Great documentation, was purchased in 1967 at Miller's Trading Post in Tempe.
