Small pottery jar by Helen Gutierrez of San Ildefonso Pueblo with buff painted design of feathers.
Standing 3 1/2" tall by 4 1/2" diameter, the hand built native clay jar is stone burnished and reverse slip painted, then pit fired to red, unusual at San Ildefonso Pueblo where most pottery is fired black.
Helen, b. 1930, d. 1993, was the daughter of Nicolassa Pena and Juan Cruz Montoya, all gifted artists.
This pretty pottery jar is in fine original condition, circa 1980s.
