Product Description
Traditional Hopi pottery from the Nampeyo family, Jean Sahmie of First Mesa, Arizona.
Jean was the Arizona Indian Living Treasure Award Winner of 2014 for her body of pottery work over 40 years.
Hand coiled native clay is built into a cylinder shape 8" tall 5 1/4" diameter at the shoulder.
Stone burnished surface is decorated with bee plant and red slip, pit fired with sheep dung, note the warm colors called fire clouds.
The pretty Butterfly Maiden is on both sides, separated by a sash belt.
Vintage pottery circa 1970s-90s, very good no damage.
